Julia Beth Grayson was born April 18, 1950 to Julius and Elizabeth (Chesley) Hoger. She was a baptized and confirmed member of Zion Lutheran Church. She graduated from Paullina High School in 1968. On Halloween in 1973 she met the love of her life, Steve Grayson, and they married on July 27, 1974 in Paullina.
After attending business school in Sioux City, IA, Julie worked as a bookkeeper at the Cherokee Hospital, and then at Hy Vigor Seed in Paullina for many years. She went on to work for Quick Enterprises to manage various businesses that moved them to Orange City, IA, Sioux Falls, SD and Luverne, MN. They returned to Paullina where she provided babysitting services until she retired.
Julie was a very talented seamstress who was always sewing or repairing something for her family. From wedding dresses, blankets, and pajama pants to purses, custom burp rags, and hooded towels. She did it all. She also loved to craft. She’d often experiment, watching videos to get ideas for her next creation. Her most recent projects included crocheting beanie hats, and using her die-cutting machine to create earrings and other items. And she had a special knack for making handmade cards. She enjoyed gardening and cooking too, although her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Kara and Mike Thompson and their children, Cade and Audra, of Ankeny, IA; and Stephanie and Travis Flegler, and his son Jordan of Russell, KS; her mother, Betty Hoger of Paullina, IA; brother, Larry and Dee Hoger; of Paullina, IA; sisters, Nancy and Bruce Rogge of Palmer, KS; Marcy and Alan Oehmke of Palmer, KS; Dee Fritz and fiancé Mike Tesch of Paullina, IA; plys special friends Rod and Mel Hedberg, and their children, Addison and Connor; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Julie was preceded in death by her husband, Steve; her father, Julius Hoger; brother, Jan Hoger; and sister, Jane Rhodes.
