From the Sioux Center News, July 16, 1936:
DR. POPPEN DIES IN MUSKEGON
Dr. Albert Poppen, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Poppen of Sioux Center, died at his home in Muskegon, Mich., last Friday. He would have been 56 years old yesterday. He had been ailing for the last four years and was seriously ill during the last eight weeks.
Dr. Poppen was graduated from Northwestern Academy at Orange City, Hope College and Rush Medical College. Since 1910 he has practiced medicine at Muskegon, Mich. He was active in church and civic affairs and was for many years a member of the Finance Board of Calvin College. For the last 15 years he specialized exclusively in surgery.
Mrs. Poppen, who with four daughters survives him, is well known here. She was Hattie Peerbolte.
John Poppen from Sioux Center attended the funeral which was held at Muskegon last Monday.

Poppen, residence 1227 Jefferson, Muskegon, Mich., resident of Muskegon 25 years; born July 15, 1880 in Drenthe, Mich.; parents Albert Poppen and Henriette Walcott, both born in Drenthe; wife, Hattie Peerbolte; occupation, physician and surgeon, general practice, 26 years in this occupation; died in Hackley Hospital, Muskegon, at 8 a.m. July 10, 1936; causes, myocarditis, duration 15 years, and auricular fibrillation, duration 4 years; contributory cause, nephritis, duration 6 months; buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Muskegon.
