Early Settler Died Saturday Johann Herman Schroder, age 76 yt-ars, 10 months, and 18 days, passed away last Saturday at the home of his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Willert. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the German Lutheran church, with Rev. Wm. Baetke, officiating-. Interment is made in the Lutheran cemetery. Deceased was born in Germany. An Obituary will appear next week.

John Schroder was born in Bentvisch, Hannover, Germany, on March 19, 1843. He was educated in the Christian school and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. In the war between Germany and France he was a soldier and was on of those who partook in the siege of Paris.
In March 16th 1875 he was married to Miss Emma Christine Beuewner at O’Berndorf Hannover, and in May of the same year the young couple left their old home and came to America. Muscatine, Iowa was their first stopping place. There they lived about three years when in 1878 they came to Sioux County on a farm where they stayed until their death with the exception of a few years residence in Sheldon and were members of the Lutheran congregation..
The union of the marriage was blessed with nine children three of them are dead and six alive. In 191__ Mr. Schroder retired with his wife from farm work and rented his farms to his sons. But the rest of his life was not easy to the deceased, according to the will of our Lord, Jan 10, 1915 he los his beloved wife so unexpectedly by a stroke of paralysis. On July 26 1917 his youngest son Fred died in an accident with an automobile. These strokes were too hard for his health; he suffered and could not recover. For months he had to stay I bed Oftn he said ‘I am read to go home’ on Saturday the 7th of February at one o’clock in the morning he departed. He brought his age to 76 years 10 months an 19 days.
He left to mourn his death the children: William, John, Herman, Martha, wife of Fred Heitrittr, Louise wife of Gus Willert, all living in Sioux County, and Anna Wife of Will Nuetjens, Melvin, Iowa and on siter Mrs. John Stegemann Boyden. May he rest in peace.
