Funeral services for Dean Bowden, 41, of El Segundo, Calif., former Hawarden resident who succumbed unexpectedly to a heart attack at his home, were held on Tuesday, October 19, at the Douglas Mortuary at El Segundo. A minister from a Prebyterian church officiated with burial there.
Mr. Bowden was born December 9, 1923, on a farm near Ireton. He married Bernice Wessels and they farmed at Ireton for a time before moving to Hawarden where he was employed at trucking. About 14 years ago they moved to California.
Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Carla, 17, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bowden of Ireton; two brothers, Thayne Bowden of Hawarden and Homer Bowden of Chino, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Gaylon (Wanda) Kuchel of Omaha, Mrs. Gerald (Velma) Juffer of Ireton; Mrs. Delmar (Ardell) Smit of California and Mrs. Robert (Betty) Loverin of Ayrshire, Iowa.
Attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bowden and Mrs. Gerald Juffer, all of Ireton, who flew out and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Wessels, accompanied by Herman and Armin Wessels, both of Le Mars.
