WALTER DOORENBOS

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 18, at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Reformed church in Morrison, Illinois, for Walter Doorenbos, who passed away Monday, August 15, at Rochester, Minnesota. Rev. J. D. Dykstra officiated with interment at Grove Hill cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Ten Boer, Paul Klimstra, Ben Vandermyde, Paul Bush, William Vandermyde and Richard Buikema. Friends caring for flowers were Mrs. John Ten Boer and Mrs. Harold Bush. Mrs. Paul Klimstra was organist, and two numbers were sung by the quartet composed of David and Roland Ebbers, Dick Valk and Arnold Heusinkveld.

Walter Doorenbos, formerly living 4 miles southwest of Morrison, passed away Monday at Rochester, Minnesota. He was born at Boyden, Iowa, April 2, 1902, the son of John and Winnie Bleeker Doorenbos and was educated in the schools at Boyden. He was united in marriage March 7, 1934 in Morrison to Rena Rose and the couple farmed near Morrison, Illinois since that time. He was a member of the Emmanual Reformed church, the consistory, choir, and Men’s Brotherhood of the church, and a trustee of the Resthaven Home.

Survivors are his wife, Rena; three daughters, Mrs. Dale (Yvonne) Burkholder, Mrs. Wayne (Mary) Longanecker and Karen at home; three grand children; six brothers, William, Lawrence, Richard, Jake, Alfred and Theodore, all of Boyden; two sisters, Mrs. Chris Visser of Colorado City, Colo. and Mrs. Gerald Dykstra of Bellflower, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those attending the funeral of Walter Doorenbos, 58 years old, on Thursday, who passed away Monday, August 15 at Rochester, Minnesota, due to a heart attack were: Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Doorenbos of George, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Doorenbos and Darlene, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Doorenbos, Miss Lois Doorenbos, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Doorenbos and Ruth and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Doorenbos and family.

Minnesota death certificate no. 1960-MN-013028 shows him born 21 April 1902 in Iowa; parents John Doorenbos and Winnie Bleeker; married, spouse Rena Rose Doorenbos; a farmer, usual residence Morrison, Whitside County, Illinois; died in St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester (a Mayo Clinic affiliate), where he had been one week, on August 15, 1960; cause, myocardial failure due to coronary atherosclerosis; buried in Morrison, Illinois.
