Maria Van Olst, 90, of Rock Valley, died Monday, July 24, at the Valley Manor at Rock Valley.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 29, at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley, the Reverend Dr. Michael Van Hamersveld officiated. Burial followed at the Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home.

Maria was born May 23, 1910, at Harderwijk, the Netherlands, daughter of Gerrit and Aaltje (Vanden Berg) Timmer. She married John Olst on June 10, 1931, in the Netherlands. Maria and John came to the United States of America to Sheldon on October 10, 1954. They moved to Rock Valley in 1957 where they had purchased the Valley Bakery. John died September 13, 1972. Maria moved to the Valley Manor in June 1990.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Lambert and his wife Kathleen Van Olst of Rock Rapids, and John Van Olst of Sheldon; four daughters and their husbands, Eileen and Charlie De Jong of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Gertrude and Dennis Overweg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Gerri and Ray Reinke of Rock Valley and Lucy and Fred Ymker of Inwood; son-in-law Darryl Addink of Sioux Center; seventeen grandchildren; and thirty-one great-grandchildren.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband John; daughter Maria Addink, infant daughter Wympje Geertruida Van Olst; five brothers and four sisters.
