William Van Meeveren Called By Death, Funeral Monday

William Van Meeveren, life-long resident of this vicinity, passed on suddenly at 12:40 Saturday morning at his home in Orange City.

His pioneer parents, Aart and Gysbertje (Muilenburg) Van Meeveren settled north of what later became the town of Alton, where he was born August 19, 1874. He grew up here and was married at Orange City Jan. 4, 1899, to Minnie Kleinhesselink.

Children born to this union were Gilbert of Sheldon, Alfred, Mrs. Harry Verhoeven (Jeanette), Mrs. Simon Harmelink (Mathilda), and Prof. Arthur, all of Orange City.

He is survived by his wife and children, eleven grandchildren, two sisters: Mrs. Jeanette Eernisse, Leota, Minnesota, and Mrs. Minnie De Raad, Ireton. Some years ago the family moved to Orange City.

Mr. Van Meeveren was esteemed and loved by many friends. He was an active member of the First Reformed Church, Orange City, where funeral services were held Monday afternoon at three o'clock with Reverend Colenbrander in charge, assisted by Dr. Jacob Heemstra of North Western Junior College and Dr. Stegeman.

Many Alton friends joined friends and relatives from neighboring towns in honoring the memory of this fine Christian gentleman. Neighbors of the deceased were pallbearers including Peter De Jager, Ring De Jager, Ed De Jager, Paul Mouw, Ike Herwynen, John Brink. Special music included a solo by Mariada Muilenburg representing the Junior College, and numbers by a quartet from the church.

Present from out of the county were Ed Buren, Sanborn; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Boone, Woodbine; Mr. and Mrs. William Leemkuil, Little Rock; from Leota, Minnesota: Joe Eernisse, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Eernisse, Jake Eernisse, Mrs. Ed Beukelman, Mrs. Hattie Eernisse; from Edgerton, Messrs. and Mesdames John Menning, Jake Achterhof, Art Muilenburg, Mr. John Kreun and Peter Muilenburg; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kooiman, Chandler, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Harmelink, Mrs. Ernie Sharp, Mrs. John May, all of Spirit Lake; Ben Vrymoet, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heemstra, Sheldon; Mrs. Weston Karr, Mrs. Judson McDougall, and Mrs. Arthur De Raad, all of Le Mars.
