Born: May 5, 1823
Died: January 10, 1892

Peter Van Horssen, Sr., died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arie Noteboom, about two miles west of Orange City, on Sunday. His death was due to lung fever, aggravated and hastened by an attack of the grip and by the disability of old age. Mr. Van Horssen was seventy years of age and was an upright, honest man who had numerous friends in the colony. His death is mourned by all who knew him.

His funeral, which occurred yesterday afternoon from the Holland Christian Reformed Church, was largely attended by those who desired to pay their respects to the dead.

Note: Peter was married to Maria (Van der Ley) Van Horssen in Marion County, Iowa on 7 December 1860. This was the second marriage for both. Each had children from their first marriage. No children born to Piet Van Horssen and Maria VD Leij. Death record says she is buried in Orange City. She is probably next to Peter. Peter and Maria migrated to Orange City in 1870 and homesteaded.
