Mrs. Gerrit Van Horssen of Orange City, 83, died at 9 A.M. Monday, March 1,, at her home after a long illness. The funeral will be held Friday at 1 o’clock at the home and at 1:30 at the first Reformed Church, with Reverend H. Colenbrander officiating. Burial will be at the Maurice Cemetery. The Van Etten Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Van Horssen, nee Hattie Somsen, was born at Dunxperlo Holland, on November 1, 1864, She came to America at the age of 5 settling at Greenleafton, Minnesota. Four years later the family moved to Maurice where she lived until she moved to Orange City in 1916.

On March 2, 65 years ago, she was united in marriage to Gerrit Van Horssen who preceded her in death 14 years ago. They farmed near Maurice for many years.

Surviving their mother, are six children, William, Anna (Mrs. H. W. Brink), Elizabeth (Mrs. H.K. De Jong), all of Orange City, P.H. Van Horssen and Arthur Van Horssen, both of Bellflower, California, and Nell (Mrs. Henry De Haan) of Orange City. One daughter, Mrs. Gerrit Kuiken, died in August of 1940. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
