From the Sioux County Index (Hull), March 1, 1940:

Mrs. Wm. Doeksen Passed Away Mon.; Funeral Today

Mrs. Wm. Doeksen Sr., who has been a patient at the State Hospital for some time, passed away early Monday morning, February 26th, from a severe case of pneumonia. She was brought to the local undertaking parlors Monday afternoon. Mrs. Trintje Doeksen, nee De Boer, was born in the Netherlands, November 11th, 1859, and was therefore over 80 years old at the time of her death. Mr. Doeksen died February 15th, 1936.

The funeral will be held this Thursday afternoon at 1:00 from the Teunis Marra home, and at 1:30 from the First Reformed Church of Hull. The Index joins in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives. A complete obituary is being prepared for our next issue.

OBITUARY OF MRS. WILLIAM DOEKSEN SR., DIED FEBR. 26

Mrs. William Doeksen Sr. died at the State Hospital at Cherokee, Iowa, on Monday, February 26th, 1940, following a long illness of pneumonia, at the age of over eighty years.

Mrs. William Doekstra, nee Tryntje De Boer, was born November 11, 1859 at Ter Schelling, The Netherlands. On September 9, 1879, she was married to Mr. William Doeksen at Ter Schelling. Eleven children were born to this union, one dying in infancy.

In 1889 the family came to America and settled on a farm north of Hull. About twenty-two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Doeksen retired and moved to Hull. Mr. Doeksen died February 15, 1936, at the family home in Hull.

Surviving her are ten children; Wm. of Rock Rapids; Mrs. T. W. Marra (Rena) of Hull; Mrs. Bert Lubbers (Lena) of Orange City; Mrs. Charles Vander Meer (Katie) of Hull; Gerrit of Grandin, North Dakota; Marie of Oakdale, Iowa; Mrs. Albert Vander Meer (Nellie) of Rock Valley, Raymond of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Arie of Rapid City, South Dakota; twenty-eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gerrit De Boer of Amsterdam. [A similar obituary in De Volksvriend, March 7, 1940, lists her tenth child, Winnie Doeksen of Sioux Center.]

Funeral services were held February 28 from the T. W. Marra home and from the First Reformed Church, with Rev. G. H. Douwstra, her pastor, officiating. Interment was in Hope Cemetery, Hull, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vander Meer of Fairbury, Nebraska, and Mr. Willis Vander Meer of Fort Dodge, Iowa, were here to attend the funeral of their grandmother.

Her death certificate has Tryntje Doeksen, widowed, born Nov. 11, 1859 in Holland; parents Garrett De Boer and Winnie De Boer; usual residence Hull, Iowa; died at the Cherokee State Hospital, where she had been a patient 1 year, 7 months, 6 days; the doctor there had attended her since July 20, 1938; died at 3:15 a.m. February 26, 1940; immediate cause of death, bronchopneumonia, duration 11 days, due to senility; other conditions, senile psychosis, delirious and confused, duration 5 years.

Her FindaGrave page erroneously gives her death year as 1936, and shows her born 11 Nov 1859 in West-Terschelling, Terschelling Municipality, Friesland, Netherlands.
