From the Alton Democrat, November 23, 1967:

Area Obituaries: Mrs. Joan Pease

Mrs. Joan Pease, the former Joan Van Nimwegen, of San Jose, Calif., and a former Alton resident, died Nov. 12 at her home following a stroke. She had been hospitalized for a stroke, but was at home when death occurred. She was 80 years old. Funeral rites and burial were in San Jose.

Mrs. Pease had lived with her sister, Mrs. Martha Chenoweth, after leaving Alton several years ago. Mrs. Chenoweth’s address is 232 Wabash av., San Jose, Calif., 95128.

Submitter’s note, from family history research: Mrs. Pease, originally Johanna Van Nimwegen, and her sister (usually called Mary or Marie) were the daughters of Alton’s pioneer harnessmaker, William Van Nimwegen, and his wife Emma Bomgaars. Johanna was born in Alton on June 11, 1887. She married Sidney Lamond Pease, a decorator and contractor of Rockford, Illinois, on September 29, 1934, when she was 47, although she seems to have continued to spend considerable time in Alton as her father’s caregiver. She was mother to Pease’s son Gaylord from his first marriage, but had no children of her own. Their marriage may not have lasted more than about a decade; by the late 1940s the two sisters were living in Sioux City, and they moved to California in about 1953.
