Blaauw/ Blau , 5 yr old son, Rock Valley news in the De Volksvriend Orange City newspaper issue May 22, 1879 drowned playing on bridge last week.

Translation,

Mr. Blaauws, a Dutchman or German who had been on a farm in the northern part of this County on the Rock River lost a five year old son who was playing with some other children on the iron bridge when he fall into the river. This is the third drowning in the river this week.

1885 IA census Matthew Blau age 44, Marguritta age 31 children John 12, and Josephine 8.
