Mrs. Joyce Kooiker, age 88, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at her residence.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, December 16, at 10:30am, at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church. The Rev. James Laning will officiate. A private family interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Joyce Kathrene was born on November 20, 1931, on a farm near Doon, the daughter of Joe and Kate (Otten) Mulder. She attended the Doon Christian School and graduated from the Western Christian High School in Hull.

She was united in marriage to William K. Kooiker on November 22, 1949 in Doon. They first made their home on a farm near Boyden, and in 1954 they established their family farm near Hull, where they raised their seven children.

When their son, Wayne, was injured in an accident in 1975, Joyce, with Bill’s assistance, lovingly dedicated herself to his care and comfort at home for more than 32 years. In February of 1997, Bill, Joyce, and Wayne moved to a home in Hull. She continued tending to Wayne’s needs with great faith in the Lord. She always met life’s challenges with grace and cheerfulness. Bill passed away on March 25, 1999, at home, after more than 49 years of marriage. Wayne also passed away at home, on April 25, 2007.

Joyce was a member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School and led Bible study groups. She also enjoyed spending time with the Red Hat Ladies and traveling. She made a warm and welcoming home for her family, and cherished visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many others whom she considered family.

Survivors include her six children, Karla, and her husband, Doug Kats; Ken Kooiker; Aletha, and her husband, David Groeneweg; Lyle Kooiker, and his wife, Pam; Nick Kooiker, and his wife, Janet; and Tricia Driesen; twenty grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, husband, and son, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Annetta Van Tol, John Mulder, Thelma Dykstra, Edwin Mulder, Edna O’Brien, and Richard “Bud” Mulder.

Memorials may be directed to the Hull Protestant Reformed Christian School and the Trinity
