Jake "Jacob" Vande Weerd Rites Are Held

Jake Vande Weerd died Tuesday April 23, at Hegg Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for several days. He suffered a severe stroke on March 17, 1966 which left him partially paralized.

He was born in Ede, The Netherlands, May 10, 1896. He came to the United States at the age of four, with his parents, Henry and Jennie (Vonk) Vande Weerd, Sr. and resided in this vicinity since.

He was a World War I veteran and a member of the Pharrar Fox American Legion Post and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Anna (Hennink) Vande Weerd; one daughter (Gertrude), Mrs. William L. O'Brien; a son-in-law, William L. O'Brien and three grandchildren. One son, Richard preceded him in death on October 26, 1949. He also leaves to mourn four brothers and six sisters.

Services were held at the First Reformed Church April 26 at 1:30 with the Reverend Ralph Ten Clay officiating. Members of the American Legion Post assisted. Music was furnished by Mrs. George H. Van Beek organist, and Sam Ver Hoef and L. E. De Vries sang a duet.

Pallbearers were Allen Bonthuis, William E. Rielly, John E. Miller, Arthur W. Klein, Lee L. Schlerty and E. J. Schmidt. Interment was in Valley View Cemetery.
