Lorraine M. Renken, 84, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church – Grant Township, rural Le Mars, Iowa. Reverend Shawn Brooks will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Lorraine Marie Lubben was born August 2, 1935 on a farm near Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Gerhard William and Christena Marie (Haage) Lubben. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church – Grant Township. She attended country school in Plymouth County and later high school in Le Mars. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School. Following high school, she worked for a couple of years as a bookkeeper in Le Mars.

She was united in marriage to Elmer Renken on June 14, 1957 at Christ Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm south of Ireton, Iowa, where they farmed and raised livestock for many years. In 1994, Lorraine began working as a cook at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars. In 1996, Lorraine and Elmer moved to Le Mars. Lorraine continued working at the Good Samaritan Society until retiring after 16 years at the age of 75. They continued to make their home in Le Mars. Elmer passed away November 30, 2018.

Lorraine was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church – Grant Township, where she sang in the church choir and was active in W.E.L.C.A. for many years. She will be remembered for her cooking and baking. She and Elmer enjoyed square dancing and traveling. She also enjoyed playing cards and playing the piano. Most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved playing games with them and watching them in all their activities and events.

Survivors include her 5 children: Sharon (Robert) Johnson of Le Mars, Brenda Renken of Le Mars, Tim (Janet) Renken of rural Ireton, IA, Terry Renken of Ireton, IA, and Brian (Leslie) Renken of Spirit Lake, IA; 9 grandchildren: Matthew Johnson (Cierra Bultje), Ashley Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Andrew Renken, Alex Renken, Alyssa Renken, Meghan Renken, Tricia Renken, and Zachary Renken; one great granddaughter: Olivia Renken; a brother in law: Melvin Renken of Manson, IA; her sisters in law: Wilma Renken, Marlys Renken, Verona Lubben, Charlotte Lubben, and Doris Moritz, all of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerhard and Christena Lubben; her husband, Elmer Renken; her granddaughter, Amanda Renken; 3 brothers: Lester Lubben in infancy, Raymond (Dorothy) Lubben, and Earl (Dorothy) Lubben; her in laws: Norma (George) Frerichs, Delores (Jack) Moritz, and Marian Renken; 2 nephews: Steve Frerichs and Dean Lubben; and a niece: Deborah Moritz.
