Vis, Louise (Mrs. Peter H) 1923-2019

Louise Vis was born July 7, 1923 in Welcome Township, Sioux County, Iowa, the daughter of C.A. and Johanna (Franken) Punt. She grew up near Middleburg, Iowa in Welcome Township and attended Shadynook School. After her education she remained living with her parents.

Louise was united in marriage to Peter H. Vis on February 25, 1949 at her parents’ home. The couple lived in Rock Rapids, Iowa and were blessed with four children, Jan, Howard, Craig and Daryl.

Louise was a member of Christian Reformed Church, active with Martha Circle and other activities for 70 years. She was an active supporter of Western Christian High School Chapter and local Christian School. She also was involved with the C.O.R.A. program which helped immigrant families assimilate to life in our community. Louise volunteered for 22 years for Lyon County Hospice, four years as Lyon County Cancer Crusade Chairperson and the THEO’S program. As a result of her many activities, she developed a wide circle of friends. Louise loved playing cards and board games - especially pinochle - with her friends and grandchildren.

Her family will remember her as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who truly had a servant’s heart.

Louise is survived by her four children, Jan Tiesler of Little Rock, IA, Howard (Sue) Vis of Hills, MN, Craig (Deb) Vis of Brookings, SD and Daryl (Lisa) Vis of Rock Rapids, IA; eleven grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Vis of Sioux Center, IA; a brother-in-law, Bernard Stuit of Ripon, CA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, C.A. and Johanna Punt; husband of 31 years, Peter H. Vis; a son-in-law, Glen Tiesler; a brother, Adrian (wife Gertrude) Punt; and other in-laws, Pete (Myna) DeStigter, Hendrene Stuit, Bert (Alice) Vis and Henry Vis.
