Miss Cynthia Steensma, age 99, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, November 16, at 11:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Timothy Poferl will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be on Saturday, from 10:00am to 11:00am, at the funeral home.

Cynthia was born on October 7, 1920, in Alton, the daughter of Joseph B. and Rena (Mulder) Steensma. She lived on her parents farm in Plymouth County until 1960, when she enrolled at the Mankato Business School in Mankato, Minnesota.

In 1961, she moved to Minneapolis where she worked at the Osterhus Book and Bible Store. In 1969, she returned to Orange City to care for her father and mother. After the passing of her parents, she worked as a clerk at various retail stores in Orange City and managed the Maranatha Christian Bookstore for a number of years.

Miss Steensma was a member of the Dover Avenue Alliance Church, where she helped with the Sunday School program as a teacher and superintendent. She also participated in the Women’s Missionary Prayer Fellowship, the Bible League, and was a supporter of the Okoboji Bible Conference and many other Christian organizations.

Cynthia enjoyed traveling, doing needlework, and babysitting.

Survivors include many cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Steensma, at the age of thirteen.

Memorials may be directed to the Dover Avenue Alliance Church.
