From the Sioux County Index (Hull), September 13, 1935:

Mrs. Augusta Czepull passed away at her home in Rock Valley at noon Wednesday, September 4, 1935, at the age of seventy years and twenty six days.

The subject of this sketch was born at Brandenburg, Germany, August 9, 1865. Her mother died when she was a child, and two years afterwards her father and the family came to America. She was united in marriage to Carl Czepull in 1885, at Black River Falls, Wisconsin. Together they came to Iowa and lived for a while at Le Mars and Hinton before coming to Rock Valley thirty four years ago.

Eight children were born to this union, six of whom survive, namely: Mrs. Agnes Moldenhauer, Brownsville, Wisconsin; Henry, Olga, of Sioux City; Rudolph of Rock Valley; Martha of Sioux City and Oscar of Rock Valley. Two preceded her to the grave: Margaret in 1920 and George on June 6, 1935. Her husband passed away in 1916.

Mrs. Czepull was a quiet woman but a sincere friend, and the many beautiful floral tributes showed the esteem this mother was held in. She was of the Lutheran faith.

Funeral services were conducted at the home at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon by Rev. G. A. Tyler, and the body was in care of the G. Van Nimwegen funeral home. Burial was made in the family burial plot in Valley View Cemetery.

The Rock Valley Bee obituary adds that her mother died when she was sixteen years old; that she came to America with her father, one sister, and one brother; and that she married Carl Czepull July 20, 1887.

Her death certificate gives her father’s surname as Garr (further family names unknown to the informant, Oscar Czepull); died at 12:30 p.m. September 4, 1935; cause, carcinoma of pancreas, onset about June 1934.
