From the Rock Valley Bee, September 20, 1935:

Mrs. I. S. Large received a message last week Wednesday evening advising her of the death of her brother, Will Grossenburg, at his home in Santa Ana, California. Mr. Grossenburg, a former resident of Rock Valley, moved away from here over twenty years ago, and since has been living at Santa Ana. He is also a brother of John Grossenburg, residing southwest of Rock Valley. He was 67 years of age.

RESEARCH NOTES

The California Death Index on Ancestry.com gives his name as William H. Grossenburg, death date 11 Sep 1935, Orange County, California, age 68.

The 1900 U.S. census shows him at age 32 (birth date June 1867) living in Plato Township with his widowed father, John Grossenburg (65) and his sister Minnie (34), with John and William working as farmers on their own farm. William and Minnie were born in Wisconsin, and their father in Switzerland. In 1910 the three of them are residents of Rock Valley, with William working as a farm laborer apparently on the farm still owned by his father. In 1920 the three of them are living in Santa Ana (John is now 89), and William works as a house carpenter. In 1930 William H. and Minnie are still living in Santa Ana, and his occupation is given as odd jobs laborer.

The 1880 census for Wingville, Grant County, Wisconsin lists what is presumably William and his family: John Grossenburg (48), a farmer; his wife Melania L. (48); and children Anna (19), Minnie W. (15), William H. (11), and Martha M. (8). (Martha was Mrs. I. S. Large.)
