From the Rock Valley Bee, August 30, 1935:

LITTLE CHILD MEETS WITH FATAL ACCIDENT

The little 2½-year-old boy, Wayne, of Mr. and Mrs. John Reit of Rowena, S.D., met with a fatal accident last Thursday. The little lad was playing in the yard at home. He apparently attempted to climb the fence and fell catching his head between 2 boards and was strangled to death. His father at the time was working behind a nearby building, but did not know of the accident until one of the other children found Wayne. He called his father but the boy was dead when found.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Reit, grandparents of the child, went to Rowena Tuesday to attend the funeral services. Mr. and Mrs. John Reit are well known in this vicinity, Mr. Reit having grown to manhood here. They have the sincere sympathy of many friends.
