John Vander Wilt, son of the pioneer Vander Wilt family, died at his home in Hospers, Wednesday, December 17, 1941 at 8:30 p.m. after an illness of 9 months.

He was born October 22, 1882, son of Arnold and Aartje (Van Oort) Vander Wilt.

John Vander Wilt and Jennie Bloemendaal were united in marriage in March 10 1907 at the Christian Reformed Church at Orange City. He farmed in the vicinity of Hospers where he operated farms with great success for many years. About five years ago he retired and moved to Hospers.

He is survived by his wife Jennie and 3 children. Arnold, Edward and Arthur all living in the vicinity of Hospers; eight brothers and sisters, most of whom are in California, but are well known throughout the county. They are Henry of Bigelow, Minnesota; Hattie, Mrs. L. Van Wyk, Glendale, California, Gerrit of Alton; Joe Roscoe, California; Sophia, Mrs. Harry Dykstra of Orange City; Kate, Mrs. Elmer Oelrich of Roscoe, California; Arnold Jr. and Wien of Glendale, California. Also three grandchildren.

All of John's brothers and sisters came here during the summer to visit him. Mr. Vander Wilt had been confined to his bed since May. He was 59 years and 2 months of age.

Funeral services were conducted from his home at 1 o'clock December 20 and at 1:30 from the Christian Reformed Church at Hospers. Reverend Bajema of Sheldon and Reverend Doctor of Hospers officiated.

Thus passes another good and useful citizen who brought honor to himself and to his family, by his unselfish devotion to the public welfare. Loyalty to his friends. A loving husband and father, devoted to his church - a splendid man.
