From the Rock Valley Bee, August 2, 1935:

YOUNG MAN FOUND DEAD IN HIS BED

Clifford Vande Weerd, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Vande Weerd, was found dead in his bed Wednesday morning. He had not been feeling well Tuesday, and Tuesday evening was taken to a doctor, who gave him some medicine. He appeared much relieved afterwards, and went home and to bed and was found by his mother the next morning. It is thought that he died soon after he retired Tuesday night.

He had been working on a farm this summer. He was a young man who was well liked by all who knew him. His bereaved parents have the sympathy of many friends.

From the Sioux Center News, August 1, 1935:

Rock Valley Boy Dies of Heat

The 19 year old son of Herman Vande Weerd of Rock Valley was found dead in bed at six o’clock Wed. morning. The boy had been working with a threshing rig. During the day Tuesday he was sick but continued to work. He was too sick at supper to eat so went into town to see the doctor and went home to sleep. He left instructions to be called in the morning so that he could return to work. When his parents went to his room in the morning they found he had died while sleeping. The coroners verdict was acute gastritis and heat prostration.
