Mrs. Jennie Zipp, the former Jennie Vander Meer, was born May 25, 1870 at Korkum, Vriesland, Holland. She came to the United States with her parents in 1885, landing here on her fifteenth birthday. She made her home in Sioux County and the Orange City vicinity ever since. She married Ike Vander Sluis February 16, 1891 and he died in 1911. Seven children were born to this union: Cornie, Clara and John preceded their mother in death. One son and three daughters survive: Charles Vander Sluis, Ida Grove, Iowa; Mrs. Arie Kanis, Orange City, Iowa; Mrs. Robert Hyink, Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. Lloyd Amoo, Jamestown, North Dakota. There are twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was married to Case Zipp on June 18, 1918 and he died in 1922.

Mrs. Zipp was one of a family of twelve children of whom one sister, Mrs. Trena Robey, Lake Park, Iowa; and three brothers: Dan Vander Meer, Sunnyside, Washington; Louis Vander Meer, Canton, South Dakota; and Sam Vander Meer, Bellingham, Washington survive her.

Mrs. Zipp was a loving mother, devoted to her children and her Church. She endeared herself to all who knew her by her ever present smile and brave manner in which she met all difficulties.

Funeral services were held at the Arie Kanis home at 1:30 and at 2:00 P.M. at the American Reformed Church, Wednesday afternoon, April 16, 1947.
