Mary (Peg) Beck, 80, of Granville died unexpectedly on Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Orange City Hospital.

A funeral service was held on Monday, March 17 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. Burial was at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Granville under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.

Mary (Peg) was born May 22, 1922, at rural Granville, the daughter of Sigurd and Anna (Tastove) Christensen. She was raised and educated in the Granville area, graduating from Alton High School in 1940. She married James Beck on June 26, 1946 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville, where the couple made their home. Peg was co-owner of Beck's Produce from 1950 until 1983. She was instrumental in bringing cable TV to Granville and was also president of Granville Cable TV Company. Pegal also volunteered 20 years of service to Spalding Catholic Schools Library.

Mrs. Beck was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Church Guild, president of V.F.W. Auxiliary, Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Daughters of America and she was also very active on numerous boards throughout the community. Peg served two terms on the Granville City Council.

Survivors include her husband James of Granville; a brother, Edward Vonderharr of Granville; a sister, Mrs. Henry (Elizabeth) Foreman of Sheldon; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Elmer (Vicki) Christensen of Granville, Mrs. Harry (Ann) Beck of Remsen and Mrs. Tom (Rita) Martin of Alexandria, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents, two brothers, Elmer Christensen and John (Jack) Vonderharr; five sisters, Clotilda Vonderharr as a small child, Nora Christianson, Bertha Verschoor, Louise Verschoor and Caroline Boersma and a brother-in-law, Henry Foreman.
