Dick "Durk" Vander Ploeg, 74, passed away Thursday, February 10 at the home of his son Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Vander Ploeg in Sioux Falls, South Dakota after a few weeks illness with the flu.

Mr. Vander Ploeg was born at Friesland, the Netherlands on April 9, 1868. He came to America in 1893 settling in the vicinity of Middleburg as a farmer.

After a few years of farming he entered business at Hull. He continued there for a year when he began a partnership as baker in the J. Eerkes grocery store at Orange City, which he continued until a little more than a year ago.

On February 11, 1907 Mr. Vander Ploeg was married to Miss Anna Limburg. Three children, 2 sons and 1 daughter were born to them. The daughter died, when a yet very young.

Mrs. Vander Ploeg preceded her husband in death 8 months ago. Since then he has made his home with his son, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Vander Ploeg at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Besides his 2 sons Stanley and Lt. J. Freeman of Seymour Johnson Field, North Carolina, he is survived by 3 grandchildren.

Mr. Vander Ploeg was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Orange City and served as deacon for many years.

Funeral services were held Monday in the First Christian Reformed Church of Orange City with the Reverend R. Bronkema and Reverend William Vander Haak of Sioux Falls, South Falls officiating. Interment was made in the Orange City Cemetery.
