Mrs. Stuckslager Passed Away

Mrs. J. C. Stuckslager died in a Des Moines hospital Monday night, according to reports received here Wednesday. She had been in the hospital for several months, since leaving her home here last summer. The remains were taken to Sioux City for funeral services in the Graceland Methodist church which will be held this Thursday afternoon.

Mrs. Stuckslager had been gradually failing for a long time. She bore up bravely under her suffering until the end. She was a woman of the finest Christian character. She had many friends in Rock Valley where she had spent the greater part of her life, who regret to learn of her passing.

FORMER R. V. WOMAN DIES
Mrs. Stuckslager Long-Time Rock Valley Resident

Mrs. Emma Stuckslager passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Tenningkeit, Tuesday, April 2, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Deceased was born at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1857 and spent her girlhood days in that vicinity where she was united in marriage to Mr. John C. Stuckslager in 1884. The couple then moved to the Stuckslager farm southwest of Rock Valley where they lived for many years. Mr. Stuckslager preceded her in death eight years ago.

Mrs. Stuckslager was a member of the Presbyterian church for many years until May 20, 1931, when she united with the Methodist church having been received by Rev. G. A. Tyler. Mrs. Stuckslager made her home at Rock Valley, made trips to California where she spent the most severe weeks of several winters, but always made her home at Rock Valley during the warmer months. She spent the last two months of her life in a home for invalids at Des Moines due to her failing health.

Funeral services were held at Des Moines and the remains were brought to Sioux City where Rev. G. A. Tyler officiated at the brief services held in the chapel at Graceland Park cemetery where the body was laid to rest beside her husband, Thursday.

She leaves to mourn her passing 3 brothers, J. C. Leonard of Cedar Rapids, W. C. Leonard of Sioux City, and George Leonard of Kansas City; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Bowman and Mrs. J. N. Atkin of Omaha; her daughter, Mrs. Mary Tenningkeit, and grandsons, James and Max Tenningkeit, of Des Moines.

Her death certificate gives her full name, Emma Jane Stuckslager; born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, August 30, 1858; parents George E. Leonard, born in New Jersey, and Rezilda Crow, born in New York; (informant Mary Tennigkeit); died at 2:10 p.m. April 2, 1935; cause, broncho pneumonia, duration 2 days, and decompensation of the heart & ascites [accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity], duration 3-4 months; contributory cause, rheumatic heart disease.
