From the Alton Democrat, April 19, 1935:

Vincent Hemmen Born at Alton

An automobile accident near Dell Rapids, S.D. on Sunday afternoon, April 7, snuffed out the life of Vincent Hemmen of that city and injured Nicholas Schwabach, Jr., quite seriously.

Vincent was born at Alton on Feb. 18, 1907, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Hemmen. When he was two years old the family moved to Dell Rapids. He had been working at the carpenter trade. Besides his father and mother he leaves to mourn his death two sisters, Cecelia and Luella, and one brother, Raymond, all at home, and his fiancee, Miss Mildred Forrette.

Schwebach was driving the car at the time, his passengers being Hemmen, and Norbert Hey. When about six miles north of Sioux Falls the driver lost control of the car which turned over, perhaps two or three times, landing right side up against a telephone pole. The other two [were] thrown clear. Hemmen was found between the automobile and telephone pole, instantly killed by many injuries. Both Hey and Schwebach were thrown 25 to 30 feet from the car by the impact.

Vincent was the oldest son and his death is keenly felt by his family and many friends at Dell Rapids where he was popular, his death coming as a great shock to that community. Quite a number from the Alton and Granville communities attended the funeral services held at the Catholic church at Dell Rapids on April 20.
