From the Rock Valley Bee, March 8, 1935:

DEATH OF MRS. McGUIRE

Mrs. Nora McGuire, wife of Marcus McGuire, passed away at her home in Rock Valley last week Wednesday morning, February 27, following a lingering illness with cancer. Although she had been afflicted with this dreaded disease, she had never complained until about two months ago when during the latter part of January she was taken to the hospital at Iowa City. She remained there about three weeks and when it was found that they could not help her there, she was returned to her home here. She passed away a few days later.

Mrs. McGuire was born at Bloomington, Illinois, October 16, 1873, where she spent her early life. For a number of years, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Cotter, lived in Lyon county. She was united in marriage November 20, 1901, with Marcus McGuire, at Rock Rapids. To this union two children were born, who together with their father survive. The children are Mrs. John Frembgen of Rock Valley, and Cecil McGuire of Rock Rapids. She also leaves two brothers, Patrick Cotter of White Lake, S.D., and James Cotter of Fort Pierre, S.D., and one sister, Mrs. Will Holleran, of Richmond, California. Mrs. Holleran arrived here too late for the funeral services on account of the distance she had to come. Mrs. McGuire also leaves five grand children and numerous other relatives.

The McGuire family resided a number of years in Lyon county and Rock Rapids. They also lived in South Dakota for some time. They moved to Rock Valley about five years ago.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning in St. Mary’s church in Rock Valley, where requiem high mass was held, Father Paul McGuire, brother of the bereaved husband, officiating, and the remains were taken to the Holy Name cemetery at Rock Rapids for burial.
