Granville Passes Away at 92 years of Age.
Was a Grand Old Man – He had Lived in Iowa Ever Since its Pioneer Days

Granville Ross, one of the oldest settlers of Iowa died Saturday morning Jan 9th at this home in this city. He was born in Virginia, March 6, 1816. He spent part of his life in Indiana, coming to Iowa with his parents and brothers and sisters in 1854. After farming a number of years he engaged in the mercantile business in which he spent nearly 10 years. He came to Calliope Iowa in 1883 and to Hawarden some years later.

Owing to his advanced age and feeble health of this brother they closed out the store. He had been in failing health for several months, but was not confined to his bed until New Years day. His death was due to a complication of diseases brought about by the infirmities of old age. He was 92 years , 10 Months and 8 days of age, and leaves a brother James Ross of Huron SD and two sisters, Mrs. Daniel McCarty of Ames and Mrs. Richard Jones of Boone, besides other relatives and friends to mourn the loss of one who had lived almost a century.

Research note: In a report on ancestry.com (by others) Granville Ross born 6 Mar 1816 Gallia, OH., died 9 Jan 1909 Hawarden IA. His parents were James Ross 1786-1864 and Mary E. Polly Nowlin 1803-1868.
