CHRIS VANDEN BERG LAID TO REST ON WEDNESDAY

Chris Vanden Berg, a well known Boyden resident, passed away Saturday, June 22th, at 10:45 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sioux City following an illness of one week, due to acute leukemia. He reached the age of 46 years, 3 months and 10 days.

Chris Vanden Berg, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Vanden Berg of Hull, was born March 12, 1911 in the Netherlands. In February, 1930, he came to America with his parents and two sisters. They made their home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, until 1916, when they moved on to a farm north of Orange City. Later they also farmed near Sioux Center and Boyden. He attended Christian Schools at Middleburg and Sioux Center, graduating from the Boyden Christian School.

On August 12, 1933,he was united in marriage to Pearl Haze of Sheldon at the Sheldon Reformed Church. They farmed in the Boyden vicinity until 1941 when they moved into Boyden. At present he was in partnership with Ed Baartman in the B & B Repair Shop.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl, one daughter, Marydale, now Mrs. Urban Hartman of Stevenville, Newfoundland, one son Anthony Vanden Berg at home, three sisters: Mrs. Peter Vis, Sr., of Hull; Mrs. John Den Hartog of Orange City; and Mrs. John Van Surksum of Corona, California and a host of relatives and friends.

One sister in The Netherlands and his parents preceded him in death.

Mr. Vanden Berg was a member of the First Reformed Church, a member of the Town Council, and the Cemetery Association.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 26, at one o’clock at the home and at 1:30 at the First Reformed Church in Boyden with the Reverend Henri J. Steunenberg officiating. A male quartet of the church sang “A Mighty Fortress is our God,” Mr. Vanden Berg’s favorite Hymn and “Saved by Grace.” Pallbearers were Gerrit Jansen, Peter P. Vis, Gerald Vis, Gilbert De Ruyter, Harvey Vis and Marvin Gerritson. Mrs. Edwin Eernisse and Mrs. Ed Baartman were in charge of the flowers. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Van Etten and Kraai
