FINAL RITES HELD FOR PETER WINKEL, 88, FORMER MANAGER OF FARMERS CO-OP SOCIETY

Funeral services were held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of Sioux City at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 19, for Peter Winkel, 88, of Eden, Texas, former manager of the Farmers Co-op Society here, who died at Eden October 15.

Services were conducted by Brother Harold Burmeister and burial was made in Memory Gardens here under the direction of the Co-operative Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Mr. Winkel was born in The Netherlands, at Haltem, March 6, 1883, and came to the United States with his parents, Dick and Marggie (Kortwath) Winkel at the age of 3. He was married to Elsie Ten Kley here on March 10, 1910. He served as manager of the Farmers Co-operative lumber yard, elevator and livestock shipping center until 1928 when he moved to Le Mars. He later moved to Sioux City and managed the Farmers Union Livestock Commission firm there for several years. Later he organized and managed the Progressive Farmers Co-operative Commission Firm and was manager of that concern until his retirement in 1958.

Mrs. Winkel died in 1946. Three years later, in July of 1949, he was married to Edna Neal. They moved to Eden, Texas, after his retirement.

Survivors include his widow; two sons, Dick and David, both of Sioux City, Iowa; one daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Clinton) Lowe of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Dick, of Sherman, South Dakota.
