Miss Florence H. Huffman, age 72, of Orange City, passed away Friday, December 14, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Florence Harriet Huffman was born July 5, 1911, at Paton, Iowa, the daughter of Charles E. Huffman and Inez Mary Wilson Huffman. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1930, from the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls about 1945 and from Drake University in 1956.

Miss Huffman was interested in conservation, serving as a camp counselor at Boone. She taught in rural schools and was assistant to the county superintendent of Greene County.

From 1956 to 1976 Florence was professor of education at Northwestern College, where she was responsible for the training and preparation for service of elementary teachers. She excelled in this capacity and was appreciated for her dependability and untiring commitment to these students. She traveled hundreds of miles each year to supervise the student as they practiced in area schools. Florence served the college faithfully during the twenty years she was a member of the faculty.

Miss Huffman was active in the Reading Council of the State of Iowa, and served as an officer in that group. She was a charter member of Alphi Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary fraternity for women teachers. She served as president from 1974 to 1976, and was a member of the state committee. Florence was a devoted member of the American Reformed Church of Orange City and after retirement became especially active in Reformed Church Women.

Survivors include her sister - Esther Mrs. Floyd Brannen of Jefferson, brother - Dale Huffman of St. Petersburg, Florida, nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 18, at the American Reformed Church, with the Reverend Marlin Vander Wilt and the Reverend Everet Van Engelenhoven officiated. Interment followed at Dawson Township Cemetery, near Paton, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.

Memorials are being directed to the Cancer Fund.
