Died: November 3, 1949

A heart attack caused the death of Willem John Willemsen, 55, Thursday afternoon, November 3 at 3:30. He had gone to the room of M. Brinkman, who also lives in the old hotel building, when he suddenly toppled off the chair and died before help could come. Mr. Brinkman immediately summoned Y. Mulder and the latter called Dr. E. B. Grossman who came at once. But Mr. Willemsen had died even before he fell to the floor. His brother, John who lived with him, was working on the new Hilbert Jager house at the time.

Funeral services were held in the Van Etten Funeral home and in the First Reformed Church Monday afternoon with the Reverend H. Cloenbrander officiating. Burial was in the Orange City Cemetery.

Mr. Willemsen was born at Middleburg, the son of the late Willem and Johanna (Teerink) Willemsen. He lived on the farm until he came to Orange City in 1936. He had been ailing for some time and had not left his room in the Old Hotel for the past six weeks because of his heart condition.

Surviving are one brother, John, and three sisters, Mrs. John Swets of Orange City, Mrs. Lambert Rens of Sioux Center and Mrs. John Dixon of Magalia, California.
