Thomas Wilcox, residing three miles northeast of Hull, was struck by lighting about four o'clock last Friday afternoon and instantly killed. He was 62 years of age and was working in the harvest field at the time of his death.

March 18th, 1852 he was married to Jane (Smith) Wilcox. Seven children, four sons and three daughters were born unto their union, five of whom survive their parents namely: T. W. and H. L. Wilcox, Mrs. Myron Fell of Malone, New York, Mrs. E. H. Smith, formerly at Hull, Hornellsville, New York, and Mrs. Collin Anderson of Hull, who with Harry, resided on the old homestead.

In 1877, the family moved from Potsdam, New York, to Sioux County, and has made this county there home continuously.

Thomas Layman Wilcox was laid to rest at Hope Cemetery, Sioux County, Iowa.
