Funeral services for Mr. Gardie Wiersma, 83, were held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the First Reformed Church here. Reverend R. Van Heukelom and Reverend R. Bast officiated. Burial was made in the West Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Stewart De Groot, Russell Te Grotenhuis, Henry Plender, Frank Muilenburg, Henry De Haan and Willian Ter Horst.

Mr. Wiersma died at the Orange City Municipal Hospital on Tuesday following an illness of several months. He was born at Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin on September 8, 1883, and came to Sioux County at an early age. He was married to Margaret Plender on February 10, 1909 at Orange City.

They lived on farms in the Orange City area until retiring in 1947 when they moved to town.

Mr. Wiersma was active in church and Sunday School. He served on church boards at Middleburg and Orange City.

Survivors include the widow; three sons, John of Newkirk, Lawrence of Orange City, and Harvey of Rock Rapids, one daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Florence) Van Zyl of Newkirk, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
