Mrs. Bertha Wierks Called Beyond

Mrs. Bertha Wierks (nee Bertha Kramer) was born in Hampton, Iowa in May 1875. She was married to Bastian Wierks in 1896 and to this union three sons were born. They are Clarence, who operates a drug store at Davenport, Harold, teaching at Cudahy, Wisconsin and Arthur a mail carrier at home. Besides these she leaves to mourn her departing four brothers and one sister. They are, John and Henry, both residing near Sheldon, Albert in Nebraska, William at Worthington, Minnesota and Mrs. White (Catheryn) who will remain in Hospers for the present.

For some time the deceased has been in poor health but owing to her patient and uncomplaining nature, her friends did not see cause for alarm, until the first of the year, since which time she had failed gradually. The end came on Thursday night when she left her sons and those near and dear to her for the reward which is promised to the faithful.

Mrs. Wierks was a member of the First Reformed Church of Hospers and was affiliated with Its Aid Society. She will be remembered by her associates as having a quiet and unassuming disposition although sincere and courteous to all and will be greatly missed by her many friends.

The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and 2:00 from the church, Reverend Stiegemn preached the sermon, Reverend Dykstra from Orange City spoke a few words in the Holland language, and Reverend Douwstra of Hull, made a few remarks in the English language. A quartette sang two selections. Interment was made in West Lawn Cemetery.

Many friends from other towns attended the funeral in which Mrs. Wierks was held and we wish to take this means of extending our heart-felt sympathy to the relatives.
