DEATH OF EARLY PIONEER

Henry C. Wells, aged 85. One of the early residents of Ireton, died last week at Beresford where he made his home in later years. Mr. Wells came to Sioux County in 1880 with his brother, Simon Wells, father of Earl and Frank Wells, of this community. Upon his arrival he purchased the farm now owned by C.B. Houlton, just north of Ireton. He retained possession of this farm about a couple of years when he sold it, moving to Beresford, acquiring land in that vicinity, and made his home there since that time.

He was married to Martha Ellen "Ella" (Jones) Wells. She passed away May 29, 1923.

Upon retiring from farm life a number of years ago he spent most of his time in travel. Mr. Wells always enjoyed good health and was active until his last illness which developed from an attack of the grippe.

He is survived by two sons and three daughters.
