From the Boyden Reporter, August 23, 1934:

Mrs. Clarence Rehberg

Johanna Margaret, the oldest of five daughters of John and Margaret Kroll, was born at Hieda-Holstein, Germany, Oct. 3, 1870. At the age of 15, she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and remained so until 1912 when she joined the United Presbyterian church at Boyden. She was also a member of their Ladies Aid.

She came to America in 1880, and went to Malcom, Ia., which [i.e., where] she made her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. P. Hanssen, where she stayed until February 14, 1893, when she was married to Clarence Rehberg at Malcom, Iowa. The young couple then came to Sioux county, Iowa, where her young husband had a home waiting for her. Here they settled and lived all of her life.

Through all the ups and downs of life, sorrow and joy, no better wife and mother could have done more for her family. They were her first and only thought. Their joy or sorrow were hers, and she did her best to guard them from any and all harm or sorrow. Her happiness was in helping her family and friends when in need. But even the most useful must leave this world of pain. Her last few days here were of much pain, but never did we hear her wish otherwise. She was ready and glad to go to her maker and master, knowing her soul would find peace and comfort above. She passed away on Thursday, August 16, 1934, at 5:00 o’clock p.m., at the age of 63 years, 10 months and 16 days.

Mrs. Rehberg was the mother of six children: Laura, who died in infancy; Evalena (Mrs. Wm. Kersten) of Hospers; John of Canton, S.D.; William of Boyden; Louis and Margaret (Mrs. T. DeSteiger) at home; one sister (Mrs. Lute Horn); two sisters in Germany; 13 grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.

Her daughter Margaret, and Sylvia and Gweneath, her granddaughters, were her constant nurses and did all that human hands could do to ease her suffering and make her last days easy. Mrs. Johanna Reherg rest in peace.—Contributed.
