O.H. WARD FUNERAL AT HOSPERS OCTOBER 28

Oliver Hiram Ward, a resident of Hospers since 1933, died at his home in Hospers Monday morning, October 24, as a result of an accident Saturday, October 16. He was badly bruised in the upset of the oil truck he was driving at the time and was in the hospital at Orange City for a week. However, no bones were broken and he was able to walk into his home Friday on his return from the hospital. He was apparently making a satisfactory recovery when a blood clot caused his sudden passing, at the age of 54 years.

Funeral services will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church Thursday morning, October 28, at 9:30 in charge of Father Thoennissen, with burial in the parish cemetery.

Born in Luverne, Minnesota, August 17, 1900, Oliver Ward attended the schools there and on May 5, 1925 he married Marie Perrott of Hospers, their marriage taking place at Hospers. They farmed near Luverne until 1933, when they came to Hospers to care for Mrs. Ward's aged parents.

Mr. Ward was employed for eight years at the Hospers Slagle Lumber Company Yard and at the time of his death was employed at the Jacobsma Oil Station.

The accident happened when the truck brakes failed on a hill a mile and a half northwest of the Hospers depot. The road turns at the foot of the hill and when Mr. Ward attempted to make the turn, the truck toppled over 1 1/2 times. He was thrown from the truck and one leg was pinned under it. However, he managed to free himself and was picked up by Gilbert Van Wyke and taken to the oil station, where William Golden rushed the injured man to the hospital.

Surviving are Mrs. Ward, a son, Donald, with the United States Army at Hutchinson, Kansas and a daughter, Margaret Ann at home; one grandchild; his father, W.L. Ward of Luverne, Minnesota; three brothers, Duane, Edward and Charles; four sisters: Mrs. Lawrence Neisius of Le Mars, Mrs. William Wahlert, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Nick Lasrenz, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Dorothy, Luverne, Minnesota.

The many friends of the family extend sympathy on the tragic passing of a devoted husband father.
