Mrs. James Walpole passed away at her home in Rock Valley on Monday at 8:20 p.m. May 5, 1941 after an illness of three months with kidney and intestinal diseases.

Emma Scott Walpole was born at Rochester, New York, September 17, 1864 and was one of eleven children and while a small girl moved to Dallas Center, Iowa, with her parents Mr. and Mrs. John and Sarah (McClelland) Scott and as a young lady the family moved again this time to Miller, South Dakota. She was united to James Walpole in marriage on February 17, 1886 at Alta, Iowa and went to make their first home on a farm southwest of Garfield Township and after spending three years moved into Rock Valley in 1890 and lived there until 1893 when they moved onto a farm in the vicinity of Carmel and remained there three years moving into Rock Valley in 1896 where they have continued to reside.

Mr. and Mrs. Walpole celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on February 17, 1941 by holding an open house.

She is survived by her husband James Walpole, and five children Gladys, Mrs. Wayne Thayer, Los Angeles, Califprnia; Lois, Mrs. Henry De Sair, Van Nuys, California; Leslie James Walpole, Correctionville, Iowa; Helen, Mrs. Dale Farran, Rowan, Iowa, and Irma, Mrs. Henry Van Muelen, Rock Valley, Iowa; one brother Robert Scott of Miller, South Dakota, three grandchildren, Robert and Jean Walpole, Correctionville, and John Ver Muelen, Rock Valley.

Funeral services were conducted at the home at 1:30 o'clock and at 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist Church at Wednesday, conducted by Reverend L.A. Rachuy.
