From the Alton Democrat, January 12, 1934:

Gertrude Reuvers Dies at Sheldon

Miss Gertrude Reuvers, former Alton resident, passed on Tuesday, Jan. 9th at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Van Roekel, near Sheldon. She was 54 years and 28 days of age, had long been an invalid and in late years had become increasingly helpless.

Miss Reuvers was born at Pella, Iowa, Dec. 12, 1879. In 1884 she came with her parents to this county, settling at Orange City where the family lived until the year 1890 when they moved to Alton. In the year 1915 the family moved to a farm 9 miles northeast of Sheldon, where Miss Reuvers’ mother and her brother Dick preceded her in death in the year 1920. Since 1929 she had made her home with her sister, Mrs. John Van Roekel, who cared for her since that time. Brothers and sisters were called to her bedside Tuesday afternoon when it became evident that she could not long survive, and she passed quietly from this life the same evening.

She was a faithful member of the First Reformed church until her infirmities made it impossible for her to attend services. She is survived by her aged father, John Reuvers, Sr.; three sisters and four brothers, namely: Mrs. John Van Roekel, Jake, Henry and Thomas Reuvers of Sheldon; Mrs. Charles Smit of Alton; Mrs. Mince Oordt of Hospers; J. H. Reuvers of Eagle Grove. The family has the sympathy of all in the passing of a dear sister, so long a patient sufferer.

Many relatives and friends attended the services which were held at 12:30 at the home and 1:30 at the First Reformed church of Sheldon on Friday, January 12. Interment was made at East Lawn cemetery.
