Mr. Donald “Don” Katt, age 86, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, May 29, at 11:00am, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Orange City. Interment will be prior to the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery, near Alton. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Donald William was born on August 10, 1932, at Inwood, the son of Walter and Alvira (Klein) Katt. He was raised at Inwood, where he graduated from high school.

On May 1, 1951, he married June D. Moen in Luverne, Minnesota. They made their home in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen, South Dakota, Alton, and Humboldt. In October of 2018, they settled in Orange City.

“Don” was a salesman for J. I. Case at the Case Implement Dealer in Alton and for hydraulics at Pedersen-Sells in Fort Dodge.

He was a charter member of the Faith Lutheran Church. He served on several committees in Humboldt and belonged to the Kiwanis there.

Don loved gardening and was always willing to lend a hand with any yard work. Over the years, he also kept busy with other hobbies, including collecting toy tractors, completing puzzles, and enjoying vacations.

He made new friends wherever he went, and his ability to connect with others left people feeling appreciated and known. Most of all, he treasured and celebrated his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of more than 68 years; three children, Ronda (Dave) Aalbers, of Orange City; David (Ruth Te Brink) Katt, of Alton; and Laura (Bruce) Lubach, of Mesa, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Brady (Lindsay) Aalbers, Breanne (Pat) Van Gelder, Brent (Brittany) Aalbers, Jeremy (Heather) Katt, Jason (Heather) Katt, Jaci (Dan) Johnson, Jenon (Mark) Scallon, Courtney (Dan) Jennings, and Tanner Lubach (special friend, Haylee); twenty great-grandchildren; two brothers and five sisters, Dorothy Ter Wee, of Sioux Falls; Jean Kock, of Inwood; Dale (Millie) Katt, of Rock Rapids; Mary Van Roekel, of Larchwood; Jim (Lynne) Katt, of Rock Rapids; Karen (Doug) Wiggins, of Greeley, Colorado; and Kathleen (Gary) Dieren, of Rock Rapids; and a brother-in-law, Marlo Hanson, of Inwood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Katt, and a sister, Elaine Osvog.

Memorials may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Church and the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
