Mrs. Marylin Van Der Zwaag, age 79, of Hull, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at the Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, June 1, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Dr. Verlyn Boone and the Rev. Todd Zuidema will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Marylin Joann was born on August 15, 1939, in rural Sheldon, the daughter of Wynard and Marie (Kleinwolterink) Vanden Brink. She was raised in Archer and Hospers, where she attended the Archer and Hospers Public Schools. She was a waitress through high school, and following graduation, worked as a telephone operator and repair clerk for the Northwest Bell Telephone Company.

On April 5, 1961, she married Gerrit James Van Der Zwaag at the First Presbyterian Church in Hospers. They made their home in Hull, where she was a bookkeeper and dispatcher, first for Gerrit's corn shelling business, and then additionally for Van Der Zwaag Trucking.

Mrs. Van Der Zwaag was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she participated as an officer in church circles. She was also a member of the Gideons Northwest Camp Auxiliary and the Hope Haven Auxiliary, serving as an officer for both. She volunteered at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, helping with activities. Later as a resident she was part of the Resident's Council and enjoyed participating in the activities.

Marylin enjoyed sewing clothing for her children and making quilts, embroidering, solving word puzzles, playing cards, camping, and adult coloring until her eyesight declined.

Survivors include her husband of more than 58 years; four children and their spouses, June and Arlan De Wit, of Boyden; Calvin and Kathy Van Der Zwaag, of Hull; Iva and Troy Prinsen, of Castle Rock, Colorado; and Ila and Daryl Kats, of Rock Valley; thirteen grandchildren, Justin De Wit, and his wife, Lisa; Amber De Wit; Brooke, and her husband, John Oldenkamp; Tyler Van Der Zwaag, and his wife, Janelle; Brianna, and her husband, Travis Even; Zakiah Van Der Zwaag; Nicole Van Der Zwaag; Travis Prinsen; Jonathon Prinsen; Micah Kats; Levi Kats; Moriah Kats; and Isaac Kats; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Burkman, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a brother, Galen Vanden Brink, and his wife, Mary, of Aurora, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Vanden Brink, of Pekin, Illinois; and Gerrtit's sister, Clara, and her husband, Bernard Schiebout, of Orange City.

In addition to her parents and Gerrit’s parents, Clarence and Ida (Jans) Van Der Zwaag, she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Elma Mae, and her husband, Dale Klutman; Rodney Vanden Brink, and his wives, Helen and Charlene; Phyllis Vanden Brink; and Darrell Vanden Brink; and two brothers-in-law, Donald Burkman and Jake Van Der Zwaag, and his wives,Verna Jean and Sandra.
