Clifford Vernon Thomas was born November 13, 1906, in Ireton, Iowa. His father, Joseph, was 35 and his mother Nellie (Tarrell) Thomas was 23. He married Mable Mae Reid on August 3, 1930 in his hometown. They had four children, two daughters and two sons: Betty, Judy, Joseph, and Robert.

Clifford passed away on January 5, 1976, in Loma Linda, California, at the age of 69 and was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton, Sioux County Iowa.
