When Claus Jacob Tiedeman was born on April 25, 1878, in Hannover, Lower Saxony, Germany, his father Berend, was 35, and his mother Anna, was 20. He married Maria Margaret Hellwege on June 29, 1904. They had one child during their marriage. He died on August 5, 1956, in Pipestone, Minnesota, at the age of 78.
