Years ago Benjamin Taylor came from Michigan to Maurice and married Gertie De Vries. The couple returned to Michigan where Benjamin Taylor was killed by lightning in 1897. Two children were born to them, Mary who is now five years old and Benjamin of three years. After the father’s death the wife, Gertie, lived with Mrs. Williams, who was Taylor’s sister. In April of last, Mrs. Taylor grew sick and was brought back to her mother’s home in Sioux County to die.

When Gerritje “Gertie” De Vries was born on October 29, 1875 in Ermelo, Gelderland, Netherlands, her father, Gerrit was 29 and her mother Hendrikje, was 30. She married Benjamin F. Taylor on November 15, 1894. She died on June 18, 1900, in Iowa at the age of 24, and was buried in Memory Gardens of Sioux Center Cemetery, Sioux County, Iowa. Sioux Center, Iowa.
