Phyllis Kelley, age 100, of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

A funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at the United Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Jon Bushnell officiating. A time of visitation will take place from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the church.

On Wednesday, May 22nd the family will travel to Winner, SD where a funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Winner with Rev. Jon Bushnell officiating. Burial will follow at the Winner Cemetery.

The Kelley family prefers memorials be directed to American Cancer Society or the United Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Phyllis Dorene Zimmerle was born July 17, 1918, in Witten, SD, to Hugo and Emma (Mauch) Zimmerle. She completed her education at Greenwood Elementary and Winner High School. After high school she worked at the Outlaw Trading Post and as a legal secretary in Winner, SD. She moved to Washington, DC where she worked as a civilian employee for the United States Coast Guard. On June 13, 1946, Phyllis was united in marriage to Roy Jack Kelley in San Francisco, CA. Their oldest son, Dennis, was born in San Jose, CA before moving back to the family farm in Ideal, SD, where they spent the next 40 years. During those years she worked at both the Ideal and the Winner Post Offices. In 1994 they sold their family farm and moved to Sioux Center, IA where her son-in-law Steve Crull built them a home. She and Roy were members of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Winner, SD and the United Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA.

Phyllis sewed clothes for her family and herself, and she loved to cook and entertain. She had flower and vegetable gardens until she was 99 years old. She crocheted gifts for many, knitted many baby booties, blankets, and sweaters. She was a Tuesday Lady volunteer at the Sioux Center Christian School for many years. She enjoyed Bible studies and coffee times with friends.

Phyllis is survived by her six children: Dennis & Jean Kelley of Sioux Falls, SD; David & Ruth Ann Kelley of Rapid City, SD; Patricia & Steve Crull of Sioux Center, IA; Paula Crull & fiancé Craig Miller of Ventura, CA; Kevin & Lisa (Kaminir) Kelley of Los Angeles, CA; and Koreen & Alex Simmons of Ft. Collins, CO, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, sister-in-law, Nadine Schwinler and husband Orval, many nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; parents, Hugo & Emma Zimmerle-Vogt; infant sister, Margaret; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce & Hal Watson, brother and sister-in-law, Jack & Betty Zimmerle; parents-in-law, Henry & Elsie (Newman) Kelley, brother-in-law Floyd Kelley and wife Ellen, sister-in-law Jessie Jackson and husband Delbert, brother-in-law Milton Kelley and wife Jacqueline, brother-in-law Glenn Kelley, and grandson Christopher Kelley.
