Ellsworth P. Schut, son of Ed and Myna (Schuiteman) Schut, was born February 29, 1928 on the farm homesteaded by his great grandfather, Sander Schut. He grew up there with his sisters, Marcia (Mrs. Theron Mulder) and Pauline (Mrs. Tony De Haan) and his brother Herlan Schut.

He attended West Branch #2 school for his elementary education. After attending Sioux Center High School for one year, it was necessary for him to stay home to assist his father with the farm work as his father was not well.

On March 16, 1949, Ellsworth married Mary Ann Van Berkel and to this union four children were born Noreen, twin daughters, Mikell and Melinda and son, Elson. The couple first lived on a farm three miles south of Sioux Center. In the fall of 1954, Ellsworth’s parents traded farms with them, so they became the fourth generation of Schuts on the farm homesteaded by his great grandfather.

Ellsworth was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, where he served as a sponsor for R.C.Y.F., a deacon and taught Sunday School for many years.

He also served on the Elevator Board, Cattle Confinement Board, 4H leader and the County 4H Committee.

Ellsworth is survived by three daughters, Noreen (Ray) Meyer of Spencer, IA, twin daughters: Mikell Mouw-Uphoff (Dan) Uphoff and Melinda Schut-Tibbetts, both of Sioux Falls, SD; son, Elson (Deb) Schut of Sioux Center, IA; seven grandchildren, Kristin (Nate) Kroesche of Sioux Falls, SD, Amanda (Nate) Hobert of Fitchburg, WI, Nate (Kacie) Meyer of Iowa City, IA, Kacey (Rusty) Flannery of Sioux City, IA, Amber (Joshua) Mork of Sioux Center, Katelyn (Troy) Smit of Sioux Center and Courtney (Seth) Sandbulte of Boyden, IA; sixteen great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Phinehas, Simeon, Grace, Sam, Elise, Daniel, Brooks, Clara, Falon, Braxxton, Emmerly, Lincoln, Wyatt, Haddie and Everett; two sisters: Marcia Mulder and Pauline De Haan; brother, Herlan (Betty) Schut, all of Sioux Center; brother-in-law, Mitchell (Irene) Van Berkel of Edgerton, MN; one sister-in-law, Adelene (Herman) Brenneman of Sioux Center; and other nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Myna Schut; wife of 67 years, Mary Ann Schut; and two brothers-in-law, Theron Mulder and Tony De Haan.
