Frances Willetta “Fran” was born on February 27, 1932, in rural Hospers, to Harry and Allie (Koster) Te Grootenhuis. She was raised at Hospers where she attended school and graduated from the Hospers Public School in 1949.

She was employed at Zwagerman Hardware in Hospers before accepting a position at the Hospers Savings Bank, which later became American State Bank, where she worked for nearly forty years. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Ed’s Motors in Hospers for many years. In later years she moved to the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City, and in June of 2015, she became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Fran was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church where she had taught Sunday school for many years and had been a Girls League sponsor. Her ANTFRAN license plate was a common sight around Hospers, where she was an active promoter of the community, working as City Treasurer for many years and helping organize the Hospers Community Chest.

She enjoyed cooking and baking, having coffee with family and friends, and being a faithful visitor to those in the community who were home bound.

Survivors include her three siblings and their families, Willard and Janice Te Grootenhuis, of Hospers; Dorothy and James Lane, of Storm Lake; and Dale and Rachel Te Grootenhuis, of Orange City; eleven nieces and nephews, Kirk Te Grootenhuis, Eric Te Grootenhuis, Scott Te Grootenhuis, Bradly Te Grootenhuis, Denise Lane-Prey, Jon Lane, Joel Lane, Tim Te Grootenhuis, April Crull, Heidi De Kok, and Rick Te Grootenhuis; as well as a number of great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
