It was with a shock that the community learned last Sunday of the rash act of Gilbert Taylor in taking his own life on Saturday night. Gilbert had been visiting at the DeJager home near Ireton during the evening and had been told by the young lady in the home that he should not call again. He replied that he was going to shoot himself. He then left and returned not long thereafter and went into the house and called the young lady. She asked her brother to go down and talk with Gilbert and then they heard the shot which took young Taylor’s life. Death was instantaneous. The coroner was called in and found that he had committed suicide.
Gilbert Taylor is survived by his mother, Mrs. William (Olive Houlton) Taylor, one brother, Floyd of Ireton, and three sisters: Mrs. Richmond Sylvis Taylor of Missouri and Miss Mary Taylor of Witten, South Dakota. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church of Ireton and were conducted by the Reverend Taylor of Grace Methodist Church of Orange City.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved
